Repair was Australia’s representative exhibition in the Australian Pavilion at the Biennale di Architettura, 2018. The exhibition was developed in collaboration with Baracco+Wright Architects.
The exhibition has been driven by three key artworks – Grasslands Repair, Skylight, and Ground. Each work has acted as a provocation, a unique set of material and representational challenges through which we have developed our collective and individual ideas around the concept of ‘repair’.
Grasslands Repair assembled thousands of plants indigenous to Victoria’s Western plains, within the Australian Pavilion where they lived for six months. The plants were supported by Skylight a lighting installation which channels energy from the Italian electricity grid – 64% fossil, 21% Hydro, 9% Wind and Solar, 5% Nuclear, and 1% Geothermal – into the bodies of plants.
Ground is a series of 2 channel videos made at 14 sites of architectural thought across Australia. The experimental approach sought to represent architecture as embedded within it’s its context. All videos were made in collaboration with David Fox.
